Psalm 37

NKJV 1 A Psalm of David. Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. NIV 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; NKJV 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. NIV 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. NKJV 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. NIV 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. NKJV 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. NIV 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. NKJV 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. NIV 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: NKJV 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. NIV 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. NKJV 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. NIV 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. NKJV 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret--it only causes harm. NIV 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. NKJV 9 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the Lord, They shall inherit the earth. NIV 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. NKJV 10 For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. NIV 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. NKJV 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. NIV 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. NKJV 12 The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. NIV 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; NKJV 13 The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. NIV 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. NKJV 14 The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct. NIV 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. NKJV 15 Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. NIV 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. NKJV 16 A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. NIV 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; NKJV 17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the Lord upholds the righteous. NIV 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. NKJV 18 The Lord knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever. NIV 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. NKJV 19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. NIV 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. NKJV 20 But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the Lord, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away. NIV 20 But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke. NKJV 21 The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. NIV 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; NKJV 22 For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off. NIV 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off. NKJV 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. NIV 23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; NKJV 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand. NIV 24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. NKJV 25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. NIV 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. NKJV 26 He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed. NIV 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. NKJV 27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore. NIV 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. NKJV 28 For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off. NIV 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; NKJV 29 The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever. NIV 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. NKJV 30 The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice. NIV 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. NKJV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide. NIV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip. NKJV 32 The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to slay him. NIV 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives; NKJV 33 The Lord will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged. NIV 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial. NKJV 34 Wait on the Lord, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. NIV 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. NKJV 35 I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree. NIV 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, NKJV 36 Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found. NIV 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. NKJV 37 Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace. NIV 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. NKJV 38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off. NIV 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. NKJV 39 But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. NIV 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. NKJV 40 And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him. NIV 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
