Psalm 38

ASV 1 O Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. ASV 2 For thine arrows stick fast in me, And thy hand presseth me sore. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. ASV 3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. ASV 4 For mine iniquities are gone over my head: As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. ASV 5 My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, Because of my foolishness. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. ASV 6 I am pained and bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. ASV 7 For my loins are filled with burning; And there is no soundness in my flesh. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. ASV 8 I am faint and sore bruised: I have groaned by reason of the disquietness of my heart. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. ASV 9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; And my groaning is not hid from thee. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. ASV 10 My heart throbbeth, my strength faileth me: As for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. ASV 11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague; And my kinsmen stand afar off. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. ASV 12 They also that seek after my life lay snares [for me]; And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, And meditate deceits all the day long. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. ASV 13 But I, as a deaf man, hear not; And I am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; ASV 14 Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, And in whose mouth are no reproofs. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. ASV 15 For in thee, O Jehovah, do I hope: Thou wilt answer, O Lord my God. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. ASV 16 For I said, Lest they rejoice over me: When my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me. NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." ASV 17 For I am ready to fall, And my sorrow is continually before me. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. ASV 18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. ASV 19 But mine enemies are lively, [and] are strong; And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. ASV 20 They also that render evil for good Are adversaries unto me, because I follow the thing that is good. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. ASV 21 Forsake me not, O Jehovah: O my God, be not far from me. NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. ASV 22 Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation. NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
