Psalm 38

DBY 1 {A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. DBY 2 For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand cometh down upon me. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. DBY 3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; no peace in my bones, because of my sin. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. DBY 4 For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. DBY 5 My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. DBY 6 I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. DBY 7 For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. DBY 8 I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. DBY 9 Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. DBY 10 My heart throbbeth, my strength hath left me; and the light of mine eyes, it also is no more with me. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. DBY 11 My lovers and mine associates stand aloof from my stroke; and my kinsmen stand afar off. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. DBY 12 And they that seek after my life lay snares [for me]; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. DBY 13 But I, as a deaf [man], hear not; and am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; DBY 14 Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. DBY 15 For in thee, Jehovah, do I hope: *thou* wilt answer, O Lord my God. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. DBY 16 For I said, Let them not rejoice over me! When my foot slipped, they magnified [themselves] against me. NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." DBY 17 For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. DBY 18 For I will declare mine iniquity, I am grieved for my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. DBY 19 But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied: NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. DBY 20 And they that render evil for good are adversaries unto me; because I pursue what is good. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. DBY 21 Forsake me not, Jehovah; O my God, be not far from me. NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. DBY 22 Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation. NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
