Psalm 38

HNV 1 <<A Psalm by David, for a memorial.>> LORD, don't rebuke me in your wrath, Neither chasten me in your hot displeasure. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. HNV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, Your hand presses hard on me. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. HNV 3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. HNV 4 For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. HNV 5 My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, Because of my foolishness. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. HNV 6 I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all day long. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. HNV 7 For my loins are filled with burning. There is no soundness in my flesh. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. HNV 8 I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. HNV 9 Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. HNV 10 My heart throbs. My strength fails me. As for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. HNV 11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague. My kinsmen stand afar off. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. HNV 12 They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, And meditate deceits all day long. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. HNV 13 But I, as a deaf man, don't hear. I am as a mute man who doesn't open his mouth. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; HNV 14 Yes, I am as a man who doesn't hear, In whose mouth are no reproofs. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. HNV 15 For in you, LORD, do I hope. You will answer, Lord my God. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. HNV 16 For I said, "Don't let them gloat over me, Or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." HNV 17 For I am ready to fall. My pain is continually before me. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. HNV 18 For I will declare my iniquity. I will be sorry for my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. HNV 19 But my enemies are vigorous and many. Those who hate me without reason are numerous. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. HNV 20 They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me, Because I follow what is good. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. HNV 21 Don't forsake me, LORD. My God, don't be far from me. NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. HNV 22 Hurry to help me, Lord, my salvation. NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
