Psalm 38

NIRV 1 Lord, don't correct me when you are angry. Don't punish me when you are burning with anger. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. NIRV 2 You have wounded me with your arrows. You have struck me with your hand. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. NIRV 3 Because of your anger, my whole body is sick. Because of my sin, I'm not healthy. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. NIRV 4 My guilt has become too much for me. It is a load too heavy to carry. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. NIRV 5 My wounds are ugly. They stink. I've been foolish. I have sinned. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. NIRV 6 I am bent over. I've been brought very low. All day long I go around sobbing. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. NIRV 7 My back is filled with burning pain. My whole body is sick. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. NIRV 8 I am weak. I feel as if I've been broken in pieces. I groan because of the great pain in my heart. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. NIRV 9 Lord, everything I really want is clearly known to you. You always hear me when I sigh. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. NIRV 10 My heart pounds. My strength is gone. My eyes can hardly see. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. NIRV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds. My neighbors stay far away from me. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. NIRV 12 Those who are trying to kill me set their traps. Those who want to harm me talk about destroying me. All day long they plan ways to trick me. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. NIRV 13 I'm like a deaf person. I can't hear. I'm like someone who can't speak, who can't say a word. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; NIRV 14 I'm like a man who doesn't hear. I'm like someone whose mouth can't make any reply. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. NIRV 15 Lord, I wait for you to help me. LORD my God, I know you will answer. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. NIRV 16 I said, "Don't let my enemies have the joy of seeing me fall. Don't let them brag when my foot slips." NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." NIRV 17 I am about to fall. My pain never leaves me. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. NIRV 18 I admit that I have done wrong. I am troubled by my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. NIRV 19 I have many powerful enemies. They are strong and healthy. They hate me without any reason. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. NIRV 20 They pay me back with evil, even though I was good to them. They tell lies about me because I try to do what is good. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. NIRV 21 Lord, don't desert me. My God, don't be far away from me. NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. NIRV 22 Lord my Savior, come quickly to help me. NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
