Psalm 4

RSV 1 To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my right! Thou hast given me room when I was in distress. Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer. NIV 1 Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer. RSV 2 O men, how long shall my honor suffer shame? How long will you love vain words, and seek after lies? [Selah] NIV 2 How long, O men, will you turn my glory into shame ? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods ? "Selah" RSV 3 But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him. NIV 3 Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him. RSV 4 Be angry, but sin not; commune with your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. [Selah] NIV 4 In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. "Selah" RSV 5 Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD. NIV 5 Offer right sacrifices and trust in the LORD. RSV 6 There are many who say, "O that we might see some good! Lift up the light of thy countenance upon us, O LORD!" NIV 6 Many are asking, "Who can show us any good?" Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD. RSV 7 Thou hast put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. NIV 7 You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. RSV 8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for thou alone, O LORD, makest me dwell in safety. NIV 8 I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
