Psalm 41

NLT 1 For the choir director: A psalm of David. Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor. The LORD rescues them in times of trouble. NIV 1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. NLT 2 The LORD protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity and rescues them from their enemies. NIV 2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. NLT 3 The LORD nurses them when they are sick and eases their pain and discomfort. NIV 3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness. NLT 4 "O LORD," I prayed, "have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you." NIV 4 I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you." NLT 5 But my enemies say nothing but evil about me. "How soon will he die and be forgotten?" they ask. NIV 5 My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?" NLT 6 They visit me as if they are my friends, but all the while they gather gossip, and when they leave, they spread it everywhere. NIV 6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad. NLT 7 All who hate me whisper about me, imagining the worst for me. NIV 7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying, NLT 8 "Whatever he has, it is fatal," they say. "He will never get out of that bed!" NIV 8 "A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies." NLT 9 Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me. NIV 9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. NLT 10 LORD, have mercy on me. Make me well again, so I can pay them back! NIV 10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them. NLT 11 I know that you are pleased with me, for you have not let my enemy triumph over me. NIV 11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. NLT 12 You have preserved my life because I am innocent; you have brought me into your presence forever. NIV 12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. NLT 13 Bless the LORD, the God of Israel, who lives forever from eternal ages past. Amen and amen! NIV 13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
