Psalm 51

GNT 1 Be merciful to me, O God, because of your constant love. Because of your great mercy wipe away my sins! NIV 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. GNT 2 Wash away all my evil and make me clean from my sin! NIV 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. GNT 3 I recognize my faults; I am always conscious of my sins. NIV 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. GNT 4 I have sinned against you - only against you - and done what you consider evil. So you are right in judging me; you are justified in condemning me. NIV 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. GNT 5 I have been evil from the day I was born; from the time I was conceived, I have been sinful. NIV 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. GNT 6 Sincerity and truth are what you require; fill my mind with your wisdom. NIV 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. GNT 7 Remove my sin, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. NIV 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. GNT 8 Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness; and though you have crushed me and broken me, I will be happy once again. NIV 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. GNT 9 Close your eyes to my sins and wipe out all my evil. NIV 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. GNT 10 Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me. NIV 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. GNT 11 Do not banish me from your presence; do not take your holy spirit away from me. NIV 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. GNT 12 Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. NIV 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. GNT 13 Then I will teach sinners your commands, and they will turn back to you. NIV 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. GNT 14 Spare my life, O God, and save me, and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness. NIV 14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. GNT 15 Help me to speak, Lord, and I will praise you. NIV 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. GNT 16 You do not want sacrifices, or I would offer them; you are not pleased with burnt offerings. NIV 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. GNT 17 My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God; you will not reject a humble and repentant heart. NIV 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. GNT 18 O God, be kind to Zion and help her; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. NIV 18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. GNT 19 Then you will be pleased with proper sacrifices and with our burnt offerings; and bulls will be sacrificed on your altar. NIV 19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
