Psalm 68

ASV 1 Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered; Let them also that hate him flee before him. NIV 1 May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him. ASV 2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: As wax melteth before the fire, So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. NIV 2 As smoke is blown away by the wind, may you blow them away; as wax melts before the fire, may the wicked perish before God. ASV 3 But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God: Yea, let them rejoice with gladness. NIV 3 But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful. ASV 4 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: Cast up a highway for him that rideth through the deserts; His name is Jehovah; and exult ye before him. NIV 4 Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds-- his name is the LORD -- and rejoice before him. ASV 5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, Is God in his holy habitation. NIV 5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. ASV 6 God setteth the solitary in families: He bringeth out the prisoners into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a parched land. NIV 6 God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. ASV 7 O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, When thou didst march through the wilderness; [Selah NIV 7 When you went out before your people, O God, when you marched through the wasteland, "Selah" ASV 8 The earth trembled, The heavens also dropped [rain] at the presence of God: Yon Sinai [trembled] at the presence of God, the God of Israel. NIV 8 the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel. ASV 9 Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, Thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary. NIV 9 You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance. ASV 10 Thy congregation dwelt therein: Thou, O God, didst prepare of thy goodness for the poor. NIV 10 Your people settled in it, and from your bounty, O God, you provided for the poor. ASV 11 The Lord giveth the word: The women that publish the tidings are a great host. NIV 11 The Lord announced the word, and great was the company of those who proclaimed it: ASV 12 Kings of armies flee, they flee; And she that tarrieth at home divideth the spoil. NIV 12 "Kings and armies flee in haste; in the camps men divide the plunder. ASV 13 When ye lie among the sheepfolds, [It is as] the wings of a dove covered with silver, And her pinions with yellow gold. NIV 13 Even while you sleep among the campfires, the wings of [my] dove are sheathed with silver, its feathers with shining gold." ASV 14 When the Almighty scattered kings therein, [It was as when] it snoweth in Zalmon. NIV 14 When the Almighty scattered the kings in the land, it was like snow fallen on Zalmon. ASV 15 A mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan; A high mountain is the mountain of Bashan. NIV 15 The mountains of Bashan are majestic mountains; rugged are the mountains of Bashan. ASV 16 Why look ye askance, ye high mountains, At the mountain which God hath desired for his abode? Yea, Jehovah will dwell [in it] for ever. NIV 16 Why gaze in envy, O rugged mountains, at the mountain where God chooses to reign, where the LORD himself will dwell forever? ASV 17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands upon thousands; The Lord is among them, [as in] Sinai, in the sanctuary. NIV 17 The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands; the Lord [has come] from Sinai into his sanctuary. ASV 18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led away captives; Thou hast received gifts among men, Yea, [among] the rebellious also, that Jehovah God might dwell [with them]. NIV 18 When you ascended on high, you led captives in your train; you received gifts from men, even from the rebellious-- that you, O LORD God, might dwell there. ASV 19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily beareth our burden, Even the God who is our salvation. [Selah NIV 19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. "Selah" ASV 20 God is unto us a God of deliverances; And unto Jehovah the Lord belongeth escape from death. NIV 20 Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death. ASV 21 But God will smite through the head of his enemies, The hairy scalp of such a one as goeth on still in his guiltiness. NIV 21 Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins. ASV 22 The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring [them] again from the depths of the sea; NIV 22 The Lord says, "I will bring them from Bashan; I will bring them from the depths of the sea, ASV 23 That thou mayest crush [them], [dipping] thy foot in blood, That the tongue of thy dogs may have its portion from [thine] enemies. NIV 23 that you may plunge your feet in the blood of your foes, while the tongues of your dogs have their share." ASV 24 They have seen thy goings, O God, Even the goings of my God, my King, into the sanctuary. NIV 24 Your procession has come into view, O God, the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary. ASV 25 The singers went before, the minstrels followed after, In the midst of the damsels playing with timbrels. NIV 25 In front are the singers, after them the musicians; with them are the maidens playing tambourines. ASV 26 Bless ye God in the congregations, Even the Lord, [ye that are] of the fountain of Israel. NIV 26 Praise God in the great congregation; praise the LORD in the assembly of Israel. ASV 27 There is little Benjamin their ruler, The princes of Judah [and] their council, The princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali. NIV 27 There is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them, there the great throng of Judah's princes, and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali. ASV 28 Thy God hath commanded thy strength: Strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us. NIV 28 Summon your power, O God; show us your strength, O God, as you have done before. ASV 29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem Kings shall bring presents unto thee. NIV 29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings will bring you gifts. ASV 30 Rebuke the wild beast of the reeds, The multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the peoples, Trampling under foot the pieces of silver: He hath scattered the peoples that delight in war. NIV 30 Rebuke the beast among the reeds, the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations. Humbled, may it bring bars of silver. Scatter the nations who delight in war. ASV 31 Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall haste to stretch out her hands unto God. NIV 31 Envoys will come from Egypt; Cush will submit herself to God. ASV 32 Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; Oh sing praises unto the Lord; [Selah NIV 32 Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth, sing praise to the Lord, "Selah" ASV 33 To him that rideth upon the heaven of heavens, which are of old; Lo, he uttereth his voice, a mighty voice. NIV 33 to him who rides the ancient skies above, who thunders with mighty voice. ASV 34 Ascribe ye strength unto God: His excellency is over Israel, And his strength is in the skies. NIV 34 Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the skies. ASV 35 O God, [thou art] terrible out of thy holy places: The God of Israel, he giveth strength and power unto [his] people. Blessed be God. NIV 35 You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!
