Psalm 72

BBE 1 <Of Solomon.> Give the king your authority, O God, and your righteousness to the king's son. NIV 1 Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness. BBE 2 May he be a judge of your people in righteousness, and make true decisions for the poor. NIV 2 He will judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice. BBE 3 May the mountains give peace to the people, and the hills righteousness. NIV 3 The mountains will bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. BBE 4 May he be a judge of the poor among the people, may he give salvation to the children of those who are in need; by him let the violent be crushed. NIV 4 He will defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; he will crush the oppressor. BBE 5 May his life go on as long as the sun and moon, through all generations. NIV 5 He will endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. BBE 6 May he come down like rain on the cut grass; like showers watering the earth. NIV 6 He will be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth. BBE 7 In his days may the upright do well, living in peace as long as there is a moon in heaven. NIV 7 In his days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more. BBE 8 Let his kingdom be from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. NIV 8 He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. BBE 9 Let those who are against him go down before him; and let his haters be low in the dust. NIV 9 The desert tribes will bow before him and his enemies will lick the dust. BBE 10 Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands come back with offerings; let the kings of Sheba and Seba give of their stores. NIV 10 The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores will bring tribute to him; the kings of Sheba and Seba will present him gifts. BBE 11 Yes, let all kings go down before him; let all nations be his servants. NIV 11 All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him. BBE 12 For he will be a saviour to the poor in answer to his cry; and to him who is in need, without a helper. NIV 12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. BBE 13 He will have pity on the poor, and be the saviour of those who are in need. NIV 13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. BBE 14 He will keep their souls free from evil designs and violent attacks; and their blood will be of value in his eyes. NIV 14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight. BBE 15 May he have long life, and may gold from Sheba be given to him: may prayers be made for him at all times; may blessings be on him every day. NIV 15 Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long. BBE 16 May there be wide-stretching fields of grain in the land, shaking on the top of the mountains, full of fruit like Lebanon: may its stems be unnumbered like the grass of the earth. NIV 16 Let grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon; let it thrive like the grass of the field. BBE 17 May his name go on for ever, as long as the sun: may men be blessing themselves by him; may all nations be blessing his name. NIV 17 May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed. BBE 18 Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, the only doer of wonders. NIV 18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. BBE 19 Praise to the glory of his noble name for ever; let all the earth be full of his glory. So be it, So be it. NIV 19 Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. BBE 20 The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended. <A Psalm.
