Psalm 72

NCV 1 God, give the king your good judgment and the king's son your goodness. NIV 1 Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness. NCV 2 Help him judge your people fairly and decide what is right for the poor. NIV 2 He will judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice. NCV 3 Let there be peace on the mountains and goodness on the hills for the people. NIV 3 The mountains will bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. NCV 4 Help him be fair to the poor and save the needy and punish those who hurt them. NIV 4 He will defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; he will crush the oppressor. NCV 5 May they respect you as long as the sun shines and as long as the moon glows. NIV 5 He will endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. NCV 6 Let him be like rain on the grass, like showers that water the earth. NIV 6 He will be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth. NCV 7 Let goodness be plentiful while he lives. Let peace continue as long as there is a moon. NIV 7 In his days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more. NCV 8 Let his kingdom go from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. NIV 8 He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. NCV 9 Let the people of the desert bow down to him, and make his enemies lick the dust. NIV 9 The desert tribes will bow before him and his enemies will lick the dust. NCV 10 Let the kings of Tarshish and the faraway lands bring him gifts. bring their presents to him. NIV 10 The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores will bring tribute to him; the kings of Sheba and Seba will present him gifts. NCV 11 Let all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him. NIV 11 All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him. NCV 12 He will help the poor when they cry out and will save the needy when no one else will help. NIV 12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. NCV 13 He will be kind to the weak and poor, and he will save their lives. NIV 13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. NCV 14 He will save them from cruel people who try to hurt them, because their lives are precious to him. NIV 14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight. NCV 15 Long live the king! Let him receive gold from Sheba. Let people always pray for him and bless him all day long. NIV 15 Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long. NCV 16 Let the fields grow plenty of grain and the hills be covered with crops. Let the land be as fertile as Lebanon, and let the cities grow like the grass in a field. NIV 16 Let grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon; let it thrive like the grass of the field. NCV 17 Let the king be famous forever; let him be remembered as long as the sun shines. Let the nations be blessed because of him, and may they all bless him. NIV 17 May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed. NCV 18 Praise the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does such miracles. NIV 18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. NCV 19 Praise his glorious name forever. Let his glory fill the whole world. Amen and amen. NIV 19 Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.
