Psalm 88

ASV 1 O Jehovah, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee. NIV 1 O LORD, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you. ASV 2 Let my prayer enter into thy presence; Incline thine ear unto my cry. NIV 2 May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. ASV 3 For my soul is full of troubles, And my life draweth nigh unto Sheol. NIV 3 For my soul is full of trouble and my life draws near the grave. ASV 4 I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit; I am as a man that hath no help, NIV 4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength. ASV 5 Cast off among the dead, Like the slain that lie in the grave, Whom thou rememberest no more, And they are cut off from thy hand. NIV 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. ASV 6 Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in the deeps. NIV 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. ASV 7 Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. [Selah NIV 7 Your wrath lies heavily upon me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. "Selah" ASV 8 Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me; Thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. NIV 8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; ASV 9 Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction: I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah; I have spread forth my hands unto thee. NIV 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you. ASV 10 Wilt thou show wonders to the dead? Shall they that are decreased arise and praise thee? [Selah NIV 10 Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do those who are dead rise up and praise you? "Selah" ASV 11 Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or thy faithfulness in Destruction? NIV 11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction ? ASV 12 Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? And thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? NIV 12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? ASV 13 But unto thee, O Jehovah, have I cried; And in the morning shall my prayer come before thee. NIV 13 But I cry to you for help, O LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. ASV 14 Jehovah, why castest thou off my soul? Why hidest thou thy face from me? NIV 14 Why, O LORD, do you reject me and hide your face from me? ASV 15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. NIV 15 From my youth I have been afflicted and close to death; I have suffered your terrors and am in despair. ASV 16 Thy fierce wrath is gone over me; Thy terrors have cut me off. NIV 16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. ASV 17 They came round about me like water all the day long; They compassed me about together. NIV 17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. ASV 18 Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, And mine acquaintance into darkness. NIV 18 You have taken my companions and loved ones from me; the darkness is my closest friend.
