Psalm 88

NAS 1 O LORD , the God of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before You. NIV 1 O LORD, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you. NAS 2 Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry! NIV 2 May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. NAS 3 For my soul has had enough troubles, And my life has drawn near to Sheol. NIV 3 For my soul is full of trouble and my life draws near the grave. NAS 4 I am reckoned among those who go down to the pit; I have become like a man without strength, NIV 4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength. NAS 5 Forsaken among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And they are cut off from Your hand. NIV 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. NAS 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in the depths. NIV 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. NAS 7 Your wrath has rested upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah. NIV 7 Your wrath lies heavily upon me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. "Selah" NAS 8 You have removed my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an object of loathing to them; I am shut up and cannot go out. NIV 8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; NAS 9 My eye has wasted away because of affliction; I have called upon You every day, O LORD ; I have spread out my hands to You. NIV 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you. NAS 10 Will You perform wonders for the dead? Will the departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah. NIV 10 Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do those who are dead rise up and praise you? "Selah" NAS 11 Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon? NIV 11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction ? NAS 12 Will Your wonders be made known in the darkness? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? NIV 12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? NAS 13 But I, O LORD , have cried out to You for help, And in the morning my prayer comes before You. NIV 13 But I cry to you for help, O LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. NAS 14 O LORD , why do You reject my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? NIV 14 Why, O LORD, do you reject me and hide your face from me? NAS 15 I was afflicted and about to die from my youth on; I suffer Your terrors; I am overcome. NIV 15 From my youth I have been afflicted and close to death; I have suffered your terrors and am in despair. NAS 16 Your burning anger has passed over me; Your terrors have destroyed me. NIV 16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. NAS 17 They have surrounded me like water all day long; They have encompassed me altogether. NIV 17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. NAS 18 You have removed lover and friend far from me; My acquaintances are in darkness. NIV 18 You have taken my companions and loved ones from me; the darkness is my closest friend.
