Psalm 89

LEB 1 I will sing forever of Yahweh's acts of loyal love. {From generation to generation} I will make known your faithfulness with my mouth. NIV 1 I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. LEB 2 For I say, "Forever [your] loyal love is built up. [The] heavens you have established [with] your faithfulness in them." NIV 2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself. LEB 3 "I made a covenant with my chosen one; I swore [an oath] to David my servant: NIV 3 You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, LEB 4 'I will establish your descendants forever, and I will build up your throne {from generation to generation}.'" Selah NIV 4 'I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.' " "Selah" LEB 5 And [so the] heavens will praise your wonderful deed, O Yahweh, even your faithfulness, in [the] assembly of [the] holy ones. NIV 5 The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. LEB 6 For who in the sky is equal to Yahweh? [Who is] like Yahweh among the sons of God, NIV 6 For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? LEB 7 a God feared greatly in the council of [the] holy ones, and awesome above all surrounding him? NIV 7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. LEB 8 O Yahweh God [of] hosts, who [is] mighty like you, O Yah, with your faithfulness surrounding you? NIV 8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you. LEB 9 You are ruling the surging of the sea. When its waves rise, {you yourself still} them. NIV 9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. LEB 10 {You yourself crushed} Rahab like one [who is] slain; you scattered your enemies with your strong arm. NIV 10 You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. LEB 11 [The] heavens are yours, [the] earth yours as well, [the] world with its fullness, [because] you founded them. NIV 11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. LEB 12 North and south, you created them; Tabor and Hermon shout joyfully over your name. NIV 12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name. LEB 13 You have a mighty arm; Your hand is strong; your right hand reaches high. NIV 13 Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted. LEB 14 Righteousness and justice [are] the foundation of your throne. Loyal love and faithfulness come before your face. NIV 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. LEB 15 Blessed [are] the people who know [the] joyful shout; O Yahweh, they walk about in the light of your countenance. NIV 15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. LEB 16 In your name they rejoice all the day, and in your righteousness they rise up. NIV 16 They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness. LEB 17 For you [are] the glory of their strength, and by your favor our horn rises up, NIV 17 For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn. LEB 18 because our shield belongs to Yahweh, and our king to the Holy One of Israel. NIV 18 Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. LEB 19 Formerly you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones, and said, "I have bestowed help on a mighty man; I have exalted one chosen from [the] people. NIV 19 Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: "I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have exalted a young man from among the people. LEB 20 I have found David, my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him, NIV 20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. LEB 21 with whom my hand will be steadfast. Surely my arm will strengthen him. NIV 21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. LEB 22 [The] enemy will not deceive him, and no {evil man} will afflict him. NIV 22 No enemy will subject him to tribute; no wicked man will oppress him. LEB 23 But I will crush his adversaries before him, and I will strike those who hate him. NIV 23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries. LEB 24 And [so] my faithfulness and my loyal love [will be] with him, and in my name his horn will rise up. NIV 24 My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. LEB 25 And I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. NIV 25 I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. LEB 26 He will call out [to] me, 'You [are] my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.' NIV 26 He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.' LEB 27 I will also make him [the] firstborn, [the] highest of [the] kings of [the] earth. NIV 27 I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. LEB 28 Forever I will keep my loyal love for him, and my covenant [will be] reliable for him. NIV 28 I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. LEB 29 I will also establish his offspring forever, and his throne as [the] days of [the] heavens. NIV 29 I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure. LEB 30 If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments, NIV 30 "If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, LEB 31 if they defile my statutes and do not keep my commandments, NIV 31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, LEB 32 then I will punish their transgression with [a] rod, and their guilt with wounds. NIV 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; LEB 33 But I will not break off my loyal love from him, and I will not be false against my faithfulness. NIV 33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. LEB 34 I will not defile my covenant, or alter what proceeded from my lips. NIV 34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. LEB 35 Once I have sworn by my holiness, 'I will surely not lie to David, NIV 35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness-- and I will not lie to David-- LEB 36 His offspring will endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me. NIV 36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; LEB 37 Like [the] moon it will be steadfast forever, and [like] an enduring witness in the sky.'" Selah NIV 37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." "Selah" LEB 38 But you have spurned and rejected; you are very angry with your anointed one. NIV 38 But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one. LEB 39 You have repudiated the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dirt. NIV 39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust. LEB 40 You have broken down all his walls; you have made his fortifications a ruin. NIV 40 You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins. LEB 41 All passing along [the] road plunder him; he has become a taunt to his neighbors. NIV 41 All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors. LEB 42 You have raised the right hand of his adversaries. You have made all his enemies rejoice. NIV 42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. LEB 43 You have also turned back the edge of his sword and have not helped him stand [his ground] in the battle. NIV 43 You have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle. LEB 44 You have made his splendor to cease, and cast his throne to the ground. NIV 44 You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground. LEB 45 You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah NIV 45 You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame. "Selah" LEB 46 How long, O Yahweh? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your wrath burn like fire [forever]? NIV 46 How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? LEB 47 Remember what my lifespan [is]. [Remember] for what vanity you have created all [the] children of humankind. NIV 47 Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all men! LEB 48 What man can live [on] and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the {power} of Sheol? Selah NIV 48 What man can live and not see death, or save himself from the power of the grave ? "Selah" LEB 49 Where [are] your former acts of loyal love, O Lord, [that] you swore to David by your faithfulness? NIV 49 O Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David? LEB 50 Remember, O Lord the taunting of your servants, [how] I bear in my bosom [the taunts of] all [the] many peoples, NIV 50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations, LEB 51 [by] which your enemies taunt, O Yahweh, [by] which they taunt the steps of your anointed one. NIV 51 the taunts with which your enemies have mocked, O LORD, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one. LEB 52 Blessed be Yahweh forever. Amen and Amen. NIV 52 Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
