Psalm 89

NAS 1 I will sing of the lovingkindness of the LORD forever; To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth. NIV 1 I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. NAS 2 For I have said, "Lovingkindness will be built up forever; In the heavens You will establish Your faithfulness." NIV 2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself. NAS 3 "I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to David My servant, NIV 3 You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, NAS 4 I will establish your seed forever And build up your throne to all generations." Selah. NIV 4 'I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.' " "Selah" NAS 5 The heavens will praise Your wonders, O LORD ; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones. NIV 5 The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. NAS 6 For who in the skies is comparable to the LORD ? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the LORD , NIV 6 For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? NAS 7 A God greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, And awesome above all those who are around Him? NIV 7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. NAS 8 O LORD God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty LORD ? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. NIV 8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you. NAS 9 You rule the swelling of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them. NIV 9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. NAS 10 You Yourself crushed Rahab like one who is slain; You scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm. NIV 10 You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. NAS 11 The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all it contains, You have founded them. NIV 11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. NAS 12 The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name. NIV 12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name. NAS 13 You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted. NIV 13 Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted. NAS 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You. NIV 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. NAS 15 How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD , they walk in the light of Your countenance. NIV 15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. NAS 16 In Your name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted. NIV 16 They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness. NAS 17 For You are the glory of their strength, And by Your favor our horn is exalted. NIV 17 For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn. NAS 18 For our shield belongs to the LORD , And our king to the Holy One of Israel. NIV 18 Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. NAS 19 Once You spoke in vision to Your godly ones, And said, "I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. NIV 19 Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: "I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have exalted a young man from among the people. NAS 20 "I have found David My servant; With My holy oil I have anointed him, NIV 20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. NAS 21 With whom My hand will be established; My arm also will strengthen him. NIV 21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. NAS 22 "The enemy will not deceive him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him. NIV 22 No enemy will subject him to tribute; no wicked man will oppress him. NAS 23 "But I shall crush his adversaries before him, And strike those who hate him. NIV 23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries. NAS 24 "My faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him, And in My name his horn will be exalted. NIV 24 My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. NAS 25 "I shall also set his hand on the sea And his right hand on the rivers. NIV 25 I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. NAS 26 "He will cry to Me, 'You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.' NIV 26 He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.' NAS 27 "I also shall make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. NIV 27 I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. NAS 28 "My lovingkindness I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall be confirmed to him. NIV 28 I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. NAS 29 "So I will establish his descendants forever And his throne as the days of heaven. NIV 29 I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure. NAS 30 "If his sons forsake My law And do not walk in My judgments, NIV 30 "If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, NAS 31 If they violate My statutes And do not keep My commandments, NIV 31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, NAS 32 Then I will punish their transgression with the rod And their iniquity with stripes. NIV 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; NAS 33 "But I will not break off My lovingkindness from him, Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness. NIV 33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. NAS 34 "My covenant I will not violate, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips. NIV 34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. NAS 35 "Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David. NIV 35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness-- and I will not lie to David-- NAS 36 "His descendants shall endure forever And his throne as the sun before Me. NIV 36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; NAS 37 "It shall be established forever like the moon, And the witness in the sky is faithful." Selah. NIV 37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." "Selah" NAS 38 But You have cast off and rejected, You have been full of wrath against Your anointed. NIV 38 But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one. NAS 39 You have spurned the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his crown in the dust. NIV 39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust. NAS 40 You have broken down all his walls; You have brought his strongholds to ruin. NIV 40 You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins. NAS 41 All who pass along the way plunder him; He has become a reproach to his neighbors. NIV 41 All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors. NAS 42 You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies rejoice. NIV 42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. NAS 43 You also turn back the edge of his sword And have not made him stand in battle. NIV 43 You have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle. NAS 44 You have made his splendor to cease And cast his throne to the ground. NIV 44 You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground. NAS 45 You have shortened the days of his youth; You have covered him with shame. Selah. NIV 45 You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame. "Selah" NAS 46 How long, O LORD ? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your wrath burn like fire? NIV 46 How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? NAS 47 Remember what my span of life is; For what vanity You have created all the sons of men! NIV 47 Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all men! NAS 48 What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah. NIV 48 What man can live and not see death, or save himself from the power of the grave ? "Selah" NAS 49 Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord , Which You swore to David in Your faithfulness? NIV 49 O Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David? NAS 50 Remember, O Lord , the reproach of Your servants; How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples, NIV 50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations, NAS 51 With which Your enemies have reproached, O LORD , With which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed. NIV 51 the taunts with which your enemies have mocked, O LORD, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one. NAS 52 Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen. NIV 52 Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
