NLT 1 O LORD, the God to whom vengeance belongs, O God of vengeance, let your glorious justice be seen! NIV 1 O LORD, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth. NLT 2 Arise, O judge of the earth. Sentence the proud to the penalties they deserve. NIV 2 Rise up, O Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. NLT 3 How long, O LORD? How long will the wicked be allowed to gloat? NIV 3 How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant? NLT 4 Hear their arrogance! How these evildoers boast! NIV 4 They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. NLT 5 They oppress your people, LORD, hurting those you love. NIV 5 They crush your people, O LORD; they oppress your inheritance. NLT 6 They kill widows and foreigners and murder orphans. NIV 6 They slay the widow and the alien; they murder the fatherless. NLT 7 "The LORD isn't looking," they say, "and besides, the God of Israel doesn't care." NIV 7 They say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed." NLT 8 Think again, you fools! When will you finally catch on? NIV 8 Take heed, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? NLT 9 Is the one who made your ears deaf? Is the one who formed your eyes blind? NIV 9 Does he who implanted the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? NLT 10 He punishes the nations -- won't he also punish you? He knows everything -- doesn't he also know what you are doing? NIV 10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches man lack knowledge? NLT 11 The LORD knows people's thoughts, that they are worthless! NIV 11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile. NLT 12 Happy are those whom you discipline, LORD, and those whom you teach from your law. NIV 12 Blessed is the man you discipline, O LORD, the man you teach from your law; NLT 13 You give them relief from troubled times until a pit is dug for the wicked. NIV 13 you grant him relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked. NLT 14 The LORD will not reject his people; he will not abandon his own special possession. NIV 14 For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance. NLT 15 Judgment will come again for the righteous, and those who are upright will have a reward. NIV 15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it. NLT 16 Who will protect me from the wicked? Who will stand up for me against evildoers? NIV 16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? NLT 17 Unless the LORD had helped me, I would soon have died. NIV 17 Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. NLT 18 I cried out, "I'm slipping!" and your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. NIV 18 When I said, "My foot is slipping," your love, O LORD, supported me. NLT 19 When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. NIV 19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. NLT 20 Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side -- leaders who permit injustice by their laws? NIV 20 Can a corrupt throne be allied with you-- one that brings on misery by its decrees? NLT 21 They attack the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. NIV 21 They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. NLT 22 But the LORD is my fortress; my God is a mighty rock where I can hide. NIV 22 But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. NLT 23 God will make the sins of evil people fall back upon them. He will destroy them for their sins. The LORD our God will destroy them. NIV 23 He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.
