Romans 1

CSB 1 Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and singled out for God's good news- NIV 1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God-- CSB 2 which He promised long ago through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures- NIV 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures CSB 3 concerning His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh NIV 3 regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, CSB 4 and was established as the powerful Son of God by the resurrection from the dead according to the Spirit of holiness. NIV 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. CSB 5 We have received grace and apostleship through Him to bring about the obedience of faith among all the nations, on behalf of His name, NIV 5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. CSB 6 including yourselves who are also Jesus Christ's by calling: NIV 6 And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. CSB 7 To all who are in Rome, loved by God, called as saints. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. CSB 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you because the news of your faith is being reported in all the world. NIV 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. CSB 9 For God, whom I serve with my spirit in [telling] the good news about His Son, is my witness that I constantly mention you, NIV 9 God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you CSB 10 always asking in my prayers that if it is somehow in God's will, I may now at last succeed in coming to you. NIV 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you. CSB 11 For I want very much to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, NIV 11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong-- CSB 12 that is, to be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. NIV 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. CSB 13 Now I want you to know, brothers, that I often planned to come to you (but was prevented until now) in order that I might have a fruitful ministry among you, just as among the rest of the Gentiles. NIV 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles. CSB 14 I am obligated both to Greeks and barbarians, both to the wise and the foolish. NIV 14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. CSB 15 So I am eager to preach the good news to you also who are in Rome. NIV 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome. CSB 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. NIV 16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. CSB 17 For in it God's righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith. NIV 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." CSB 18 For God's wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth, NIV 18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, CSB 19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. NIV 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. CSB 20 From the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse. NIV 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. CSB 21 For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened. NIV 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. CSB 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools NIV 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools CSB 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles. NIV 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. CSB 24 Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. NIV 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. CSB 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. NIV 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen. CSB 26 This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural. NIV 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. CSB 27 The males in the same way also left natural sexual intercourse with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty for their perversion. NIV 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. CSB 28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong. NIV 28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. CSB 29 They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, disputes, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, NIV 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, CSB 30 slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, NIV 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; CSB 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful. NIV 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. CSB 32 Although they know full well God's just sentence-that those who practice such things deserve to die-they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them. NIV 32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
