Romans 2

TMB 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art who judgest; for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself, for thou that judgest doest the same things. NIV 1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. TMB 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who commit such things. NIV 2 Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. TMB 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, who judgest those who do such things and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? NIV 3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? TMB 4 Or despisest thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? NIV 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? TMB 5 But because of thy hardness and impenitence of heart, thou treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the Day of Wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, NIV 5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. TMB 6 who will render to every man according to his deeds: NIV 6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." TMB 7 to those who by patient continuance in welldoing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; NIV 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. TMB 8 but unto those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, NIV 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. TMB 9 tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man who doeth evil, upon the Jew first and also upon the Gentile; NIV 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; TMB 10 but glory, honor and peace to every man who worketh good, to the Jew first and also to the Gentile. NIV 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. TMB 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. NIV 11 For God does not show favoritism. TMB 12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law. NIV 12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. TMB 13 (For it is not the hearers of the law who are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. NIV 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. TMB 14 For when the Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, they, not having the law, are a law unto themselves, NIV 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, TMB 15 which shows the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts between accusing and excusing one another.) NIV 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) TMB 16 Thus will it be on the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my Gospel. NIV 16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. TMB 17 Behold, thou art called a Jew and rest in the law and make thy boast of God, NIV 17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God; TMB 18 and knowest His will and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed from the law, NIV 18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; TMB 19 and art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, NIV 19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, TMB 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth. NIV 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth-- TMB 21 Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? Thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? NIV 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself ? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? TMB 22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? Thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? NIV 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? TMB 23 Thou that makest thy boast in the law, dost thou dishonor God through breaking the law? NIV 23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? TMB 24 For, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you," as it is written. NIV 24 As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." TMB 25 For circumcision verily profiteth if thou keep the law; but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. NIV 25 Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised. TMB 26 Therefore if the Uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? NIV 26 If those who are not circumcised keep the law's requirements, will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised? TMB 27 And shall not uncircumcision, which is by nature, if it fulfill the law, judge thee, who having the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? NIV 27 The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker. TMB 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh. NIV 28 A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. TMB 29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and whose circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit and not in the letter, and whose praise is not from men, but from God. NIV 29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.
