Romans 2

WBT 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whoever thou art, that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest, doest the same things. NIV 1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. WBT 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth, against them who commit such things. NIV 2 Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. WBT 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them who do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? NIV 3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? WBT 4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? NIV 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? WBT 5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart, treasurest up to thyself wrath against the day of wrath, and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; NIV 5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. WBT 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds: NIV 6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." WBT 7 To them who by patient continuance in well-doing, seek for glory, and honor, and immortality; eternal life: NIV 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. WBT 8 But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness; indignation and wrath: NIV 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. WBT 9 Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; NIV 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; WBT 10 But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile; NIV 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. WBT 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. NIV 11 For God does not show favoritism. WBT 12 For as many as have sinned without law, shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law, shall be judged by the law, NIV 12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. WBT 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. NIV 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. WBT 14 For when the Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these having not the law, are a law to themselves. NIV 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, WBT 15 Who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing testimony, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing, or else excusing one another) NIV 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) WBT 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel. NIV 16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. WBT 17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, NIV 17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God; WBT 18 And knowest [his] will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law, NIV 18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; WBT 19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness, NIV 19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, WBT 20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who hast the form of knowledge, and of the truth in the law: NIV 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth-- WBT 21 Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? NIV 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself ? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? WBT 22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? NIV 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? WBT 23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonorest thou God? NIV 23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? WBT 24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles, through you, as it is written. NIV 24 As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." WBT 25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keepest the law; but if thou art a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. NIV 25 Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised. WBT 26 Therefore, if the uncircumcision keepeth the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? NIV 26 If those who are not circumcised keep the law's requirements, will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised? WBT 27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfilleth the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? NIV 27 The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker. WBT 28 For he is not a Jew, who is one outwardly; neither [is that] circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: NIV 28 A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. WBT 29 But he [is] a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision [is that] of the heart, in the spirit, [and] not in the letter; whose praise [is] not from men, but from God. NIV 29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.
