Ruth 4:13-17

MSG 13 Boaz married Ruth. She became his wife. Boaz slept with her. By God's gracious gift she conceived and had a son. NIV 13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. Then he went to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. MSG 14 The town women said to Naomi, "Blessed be God! He didn't leave you without family to carry on your life. May this baby grow up to be famous in Israel! NIV 14 The women said to Naomi: "Praise be to the LORD, who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel! MSG 15 He'll make you young again! He'll take care of you in old age. And this daughter-in-law who has brought him into the world and loves you so much, why, she's worth more to you than seven sons!" NIV 15 He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth." MSG 16 Naomi took the baby and held him in her arms, cuddling him, cooing over him, waiting on him hand and foot. NIV 16 Then Naomi took the child, laid him in her lap and cared for him. MSG 17 The neighborhood women started calling him "Naomi's baby boy!" But his real name was Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David. NIV 17 The women living there said, "Naomi has a son." And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
