3 I will proclaim1 the name of the LORD.2 Oh, praise the greatness3 of our God! 4 He is the Rock,4 his works are perfect,5 and all his ways are just. A faithful God6 who does no wrong, upright7 and just is he.8 5 They have acted corruptly toward him; to their shame they are no longer his children, but a warped and crooked generation.a9 6 Is this the way you repay10 the LORD, O foolish11 and unwise people?12 Is he not your Father,13 your Creator,b who made you and formed you?14 7 Remember the days of old;15 consider the generations long past.16 Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you.17 8 When the Most High18 gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind,19 he set up boundaries20 for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.c21 9 For the LORD's portion22 is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.23 10 In a desert24 land he found him, in a barren and howling waste.25 He shielded26 him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,27 11 like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young,28 that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions.29 12 The LORD alone led30 him;31 no foreign god was with him.32 13 He made him ride on the heights33 of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock,34 and with oil35 from the flinty crag, 14 with curds and milk from herd and flock and with fattened lambs and goats, with choice rams of Bashan36 and the finest kernels of wheat.37 You drank the foaming blood of the grape.38 15 Jeshurund39 grew fat40 and kicked; filled with food, he became heavy and sleek. He abandoned41 the God who made him and rejected the Rock42 his Savior. 16 They made him jealous43 with their foreign gods and angered44 him with their detestable idols. 17 They sacrificed45 to demons,46 which are not God-- gods they had not known,47 gods that recently appeared,48 gods your fathers did not fear. 18 You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot49 the God who gave you birth. 19 The LORD saw this and rejected them50 because he was angered by his sons and daughters.51 20 "I will hide my face52 from them," he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation,53 children who are unfaithful.54 21 They made me jealous55 by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols.56 I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.57 22 For a fire has been kindled by my wrath,58 one that burns to the realm of deathe below.59 It will devour60 the earth and its harvests61 and set afire the foundations of the mountains.62 23 "I will heap calamities63 upon them and spend my arrows64 against them. 24 I will send wasting famine65 against them, consuming pestilence66 and deadly plague;67 I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts,68 the venom of vipers69 that glide in the dust.70 25 In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror71 will reign.72 Young men and young women will perish, infants and gray-haired men.73 26 I said I would scatter74 them and blot out their memory from mankind,75 27 but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand76 and say, 'Our hand has triumphed; the LORD has not done all this.' "77 28 They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment78 in them. 29 If only they were wise and would understand this79 and discern what their end will be!80 30 How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight,81 unless their Rock had sold them,82 unless the LORD had given them up?83 31 For their rock is not like our Rock,84 as even our enemies concede.85 32 Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom86 and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are filled with poison,87 and their clusters with bitterness.88 33 Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.89 34 "Have I not kept this in reserve and sealed it in my vaults?90 35 It is mine to avenge;91 I will repay.92 In due time their foot will slip;93 their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.94" 36 The LORD will judge his people95 and have compassion96 on his servants97 when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave98 or free. 37 He will say: "Now where are their gods, the rock they took refuge in,99 38 the gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings?100 Let them rise up to help you! Let them give you shelter! 39 "See now that I myself am He!101 There is no god besides me.102 I put to death103 and I bring to life,104 I have wounded and I will heal,105 and no one can deliver out of my hand.106 40 I lift my hand107 to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever,108 41 when I sharpen my flashing sword109 and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance110 on my adversaries and repay those who hate me.111 42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood,112 while my sword devours flesh:113 the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders." 43 Rejoice,114 O nations, with his people,f g for he will avenge the blood of his servants;115 he will take vengeance on his enemies116 and make atonement for his land and people.117 44 Moses came with Joshuah118 son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. 45 When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, 46 he said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day,119 so that you may command120 your children to obey carefully all the words of this law.
