1 Reyes 2:11-21

11 David reinó en Israel durante cuarenta años, siete de ellos en Hebrón y treinta y tres en Jerusalén.

12 Salomón lo sucedió y se sentó en el trono de David, su padre, y su reino se estableció firmemente.

13 Salomón establece su gobierno
Cierto día Adonías, cuya madre era Haguit, fue a ver a Betsabé, la madre de Salomón.
—¿Vienes en son de paz? —le preguntó Betsabé.
—Sí —contestó él—, vengo en paz.

14 Quiero pedirte un favor.
—¿De qué se trata? —le preguntó ella.

15 Él contestó:
—Como sabes, el reino me correspondía a mí; todo Israel quería que yo fuera el siguiente rey. Pero todo cambió, y el reino pasó a mi hermano porque el Señor
así lo quiso.

16 Ahora solo tengo un favor que pedirte, no me lo niegues.
—¿De qué se trata? —preguntó ella.

17 Él contestó:
—Habla con el rey Salomón de mi parte, porque yo sé que él hará cualquier cosa que tú le pidas. Dile que me permita casarme con Abisag, la muchacha de Sunem.

18 —Está bien —respondió Betsabé—. Le hablaré al rey por ti.

19 Entonces Betsabé fue a ver al rey para hablarle en nombre de Adonías. El rey se levantó de su trono para recibirla y se inclinó ante ella. Cuando volvió a sentarse en su trono, ordenó que trajeran un trono para su madre, y ella se sentó a la derecha del rey.

20 —Tengo un pequeño favor que pedirte —le dijo ella—. Espero que no me lo niegues.
—¿De qué se trata, madre mía? —preguntó el rey—. Tú sabes que no te lo negaré.

21 —Entonces permite que tu hermano Adonías se case con Abisag, la muchacha de Sunem —contestó ella.

INTRODUCTION TO FIRST KING 2

This chapter gives an account of the charge David gave to his son Solomon, a little before his death, to walk in the ways of the Lord, 1Ki 2:1-4; and of some instructions delivered to him concerning some particular persons he should either show favour to, or execute justice on, 1Ki 2:5-9; and the next account in it is concerning his death and burial, and the years of his reign, 1Ki 2:10,11; after which it relates an address of Bathsheba to Solomon in favour of Adonijah, which was refused, and the issue of it was his death, 1Ki 2:12-25; and the deposition of Abiathar from the priesthood, 1Ki 2:26,27; and the putting of Joab to death for his treason and murders, 1Ki 2:28-34; in whose post Benaiah was put, as Zadok was in the place of Abiathar, 1Ki 2:35; and lastly the confinement of Shimei in Jerusalem, who had cursed David, 1Ki 2:36-38; who upon transgressing the orders given him was put to death, 1Ki 2:39-46.
