John 12:20-36

Greeks Seek Jesus

Now there were some 1Greeks among those who were going up to worship at 2the feast;
these then came to 3Philip, who was from 4Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."
Philip came and told 5Andrew; Andrew and Philip came and told Jesus.
And Jesus answered them, saying, "6The hour has come for the Son of Man to 7be glorified.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, 8unless * a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
"9He who loves his life loses it, and he who 10hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.
"If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and 11where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will 12honor him.

Jesus Foretells His Death

"13Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, '14Father, save Me from 15this hour '? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
"16Father, glorify Your name." Then a 17voice came out of heaven: "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again."
So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered *; others were saying, "18An angel has spoken to Him."
Jesus answered and said, "19This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes.
"20Now judgment is upon this world; now 21the ruler of this world will be cast out.
"And I, if I 22am lifted up from the earth, will 23draw all men to Myself."
But He was saying this 24to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.
The crowd then answered Him, "We have heard out of 25the Law that 26the Christ is to remain forever; and how can You say, 'The 27Son of Man must be 28lifted up'? Who is this 29Son of Man?"
So Jesus said to them, "30For a little while longer 31the Light is among you. 32Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who 33walks in the darkness does not know where he goes.
"While you have the Light, 34believe in the Light, so that you may become 35sons of Light." These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and 36hid Himself from them.
