John 15:9-19

9 "Just as ¹the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.

10 "²If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as ³I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

11 "⁴These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your ⁵joy may be made full.

Disciples' Relation to Each Other

12 "This is ⁶My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.

13 "⁷Greater love has no one than this, that one ⁸lay down his life for his friends.

14 "You are My ⁹friends if ¹⁰you do what I command you.

15 "No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for ¹¹all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

16 "¹²You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and ¹³bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that ¹⁴whatever * * you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

17 "This ¹⁵I command you, that you love one another.

Disciples' Relation to the World

18 "¹⁶If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.

19 "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but ¹⁷I chose you out of the world, ¹⁸because of this * the world hates you.
