When the Sabbathcame, He began1to teach in the synagogue; and the 2manylisteners were astonished, saying, "Where did thisman get thesethings, and what is this wisdomgiven to Him, and suchmiracles as theseperformed by His hands?

"Is not this3the carpenter, 4the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not 5His sistershere with us?" And they took6offense at Him.

Jesussaid to them, "7A prophet is not withouthonorexcept in 8his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household."

And He coulddono*miraclethereexcept that He 9laid His hands on a fewsickpeople and healed them.

And He wondered at their unbelief. 10And He was goingaround* the villagesteaching.
The Twelve Sent Out
711And 12He summoned the twelve and began to send them out 13in pairs, and gave them authority over the uncleanspirits;

14and He instructed them that they should takenothing for their journey, except a merestaff-nobread, nobag, nomoney in their belt -

but to wearsandals; and He added, "Do not put on twotunics."

And He said to them, "Wherever* you enter a house, staythereuntil you leavetown.

"Anyplace that does not receive you orlisten to you, as you go out from there, 15shake the dustoff the soles of your feet for a testimony against them."

16They went out and preached that men should repent.
