7 As these men were going away, Jesusbegan to speak to the crowdsaboutJohn, "What did you go out into 1the wilderness to see? A reedshaken by the wind?
8
"But what did you go out to see? A mandressed in soft clothing? Those who wearsoft clothing are in kings'palaces!
9
"But what did you go out to see? 2A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet.
10
"This is the one aboutwhom it is written,'3BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU,WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAYBEFORE YOU.'
11
"Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12
"4From the days of John the Baptistuntilnow the kingdom of heavensuffersviolence, and violentmentake it by force.
13
"For all the prophets and the LawprophesieduntilJohn.
14
"And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is 5Elijah who was to come.
16
"But to what shall I comparethisgeneration? It is likechildrensitting in the marketplaces, whocall out to the other children,
17
and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'
18
"For Johncameneither7eatingnor8drinking, and they say, '9He has a demon!'
19
"The Son of Mancameeating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonousman and a drunkard, 10a friend of taxcollectors and sinners!' Yetwisdom is vindicated by her deeds."
The Unrepenting Cities
20Then He began to denounce the cities in whichmost of His 11miracles were done, because they did not repent.
21
"12Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, 13Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in 14Tyre and 15Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repentedlongago in 16sackcloth and ashes.
22
"Nevertheless I say to you, 17it will be moretolerable for Tyre and Sidon in 18the day of judgmentthan for you.
23
"And you, 19Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will 20descend to 21Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in 22Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to thisday.
24
"Nevertheless I say to you that 23it will be moretolerable for the land of 24Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you."

2525At that timeJesussaid, "I praise You, 26Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that 27You have hiddenthesethings from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants.
26
"Yes, 28Father, for thisway was well-pleasing in Your sight.
27
"29Allthings have been handedover to Me by My Father; and nooneknows the Sonexcept the Father; nor does anyoneknow the Father30except the Son, and anyone to whom the Sonwills to reveal Him.
28
"31Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
29
"Take My yoke upon you and 32learn from Me, for I amgentle and humble in heart, and 33YOU WILL FINDREST FOR YOUR SOULS.
30
"For 34My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
