1And behold, 2the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and 3the earthshook and the rocks were split.

The tombs were opened, and manybodies of the saints who had 4fallenasleep were raised;

and coming out of the tombsafter His resurrection they entered5the holycity and appeared to many.

6Now the centurion, and those who were with him 7keepingguardoverJesus, when they saw8the earthquake and the things that were happening, became veryfrightened and said, "Trulythis was 9the Son of God!"

10Manywomen were therelooking on from a distance, who had followedJesus from Galilee while 11ministering to Him.

Among them was 12MaryMagdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and 13the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
Jesus Is Buried
5714When it was evening, there came a richman from Arimathea, namedJoseph, whohimself had alsobecome a disciple of Jesus.

Thismanwent to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ThenPilateordered it to be given to him.

And Josephtook the body and wrapped it in a cleanlinencloth,
60
and laid it in his own newtomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled15a largestone against the entrance of the tomb and wentaway.

And 16MaryMagdalene was there, and the otherMary, sittingopposite the grave.

Now on the nextday, the dayafter17the preparation, the chiefpriests and the Phariseesgatheredtogether with Pilate,

and said, "Sir, we remember that when He was stillalive that deceiversaid, '18Afterthreedays I am to riseagain.'

"Therefore, giveorders for the grave to be madesecureuntil the thirdday, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead,' and the lastdeception will be worse than the first."

Pilatesaid to them, "You have a 19guard; go, make it as secure as you knowhow."

And they went and made the gravesecure, and along with 20the guard they set a 21seal on 22the stone.
