Ester 9:4-14

4 Porque Mardoqueo era grande en la casa del rey, y su fama iba por todas las provincias; pues el varón Mardoqueo iba engrandeciéndose

5 E hirieron los judíos a todos sus enemigos con plaga de espada, de mortandad, y de perdición; e hicieron en sus enemigos a su voluntad

6 Y en Susa capital del reino, mataron y destruyeron los judíos a quinientos hombres

7 [Mataron también] a Parsandata, Dalfón, Aspata

8 Porata, Adalía, Aridata

9 Parmasta, Arisai, Aridai, y a Vaizata

10 diez hijos de Amán hijo de Hamedata, enemigo de los judíos; mas en el despojo no metieron su mano

11 El mismo día vino la cuenta de los muertos en Susa capital del reino, delante del rey

12 Y dijo el rey a la reina Ester: En Susa, capital del reino, los judíos han matado y destruido a quinientos hombres, y a diez hijos de Amán; ¿qué habrán hecho en las otras provincias del rey? ¿Cuál pues es tu petición, y te será concedida? ¿Y qué más es tu demanda, y será hecho

13 Y respondió Ester: Si place al rey, concédase también mañana a los judíos en Susa, que hagan conforme a la ley de hoy; y que cuelguen en la horca {Heb. madero} a los diez hijos de Amán

14 Y mandó el rey que se hiciera así; y fue dada por ley en Susa, y colgaron a los diez hijos de Amán

Ester 9:4-14 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO ESTHER 9

In this chapter we have an account of the Jews gathering together, on the day fixed for their destruction, to defend themselves, which they did in all the provinces, and smote their enemies; Es 9:1-5. In Shushan the palace they slew the ten sons of Haman and five hundred men on that day, Es 9:6-11 and at the request of the queen they were allowed the next day to hang up his sons, when they slew three hundred men more, Es 9:12-15, in the provinces they slew 75,000 and those in one day only, and the following days they kept as a festival, but they in Shushan kept the two days following, Es 9:16-19, and which two days were established by Esther and Mordecai as festivals, to be observed as such in future ages, by the name of the days of Purim, Es 9:20-32.
