Jeremías 27:7-17

7 Todas las naciones le servirán a él, a su hijo y a su nieto hasta que se acabe el tiempo de ellos. Entonces muchas naciones y grandes reyes conquistarán y dominarán a Babilonia.

8 Así que ustedes deben someterse al rey de Babilonia y servirle; ¡pongan su cuello bajo el yugo de Babilonia! Castigaré a toda nación que rehúse ser su esclava, dice el Señor
. Enviaré guerra, hambre y enfermedad sobre esa nación hasta que Babilonia la conquiste.

9 »’No les hagan caso a sus falsos profetas, adivinos, intérpretes de sueños, los médiums y hechiceros que dicen: “El rey de Babilonia no los conquistará”.

10 Todos son mentirosos y sus mentiras solo servirán para que ustedes sean expulsados de su propia tierra. Yo los expulsaré y los enviaré a morir lejos;

11 pero al pueblo de toda nación que se someta al rey de Babilonia se le permitirá permanecer en su propio país para cultivar la tierra como siempre. ¡Yo, el Señor
, he hablado!’”».

12 Después repetí el mismo mensaje al rey Sedequías de Judá: «Si deseas vivir, sométete al yugo del rey de Babilonia y a su pueblo.

13 ¿Por qué insistes en morir, tú y tu pueblo? ¿Por qué habrán de escoger la guerra, el hambre y la enfermedad que Dios traerá contra toda nación que se niegue a someterse al rey de Babilonia?

14 No les hagan caso a los falsos profetas que les siguen diciendo: “El rey de Babilonia no los conquistará”. Son mentirosos.

15 Esto dice el Señor
: “¡Yo no envié a estos profetas! Les dicen mentiras en mi nombre, así que yo los expulsaré de esta tierra. Todos ustedes morirán, junto con todos estos profetas”».

16 Entonces me dirigí a los sacerdotes y al pueblo y les dije: «Esto dice el Señor
: “No escuchen a sus profetas que les aseguran que los artículos de oro que fueron sacados de mi templo pronto serán devueltos de Babilonia. ¡Es pura mentira!

17 No los escuchen. Ríndanse al rey de Babilonia y vivirán. ¿Por qué ha de ser destruida toda esta ciudad?

Jeremías 27:7-17 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 27

This chapter contains a prophecy of the subjection of the king of Judah, with five neighbouring kings, to the king of Babylon; signified by bonds and yokes on the prophet's neck, which they are exhorted patiently to bear, as being most for their good; and not to give heed to false prophets, who would persuade them to the contrary. The date of the prophecy is in Jer 27:1; the order to make the yokes, and send them to the several neighbouring princes by their messengers at Jerusalem, Jer 27:2,3; what they should say to their masters from the God of Israel, who is described from his power in the creation of the earth, and the disposal of it, Jer 27:4,5; as that he had given all their lands into the hand of the king of Babylon, whom they should serve, or it would be worse for them, Jer 27:6-8; and therefore should not hearken to their prophets, who prophesied lies; if they did, it would be to their hurt; whereas, if they quietly submitted, they would dwell in their own land, Jer 27:9-11; particularly Zedekiah king of Judah is exhorted to submit; and both he, and the priests and the people, are advised not to hearken to the false prophets, Jer 27:12-15; particularly as to what they said concerning the speedy return of the vessels of the temple, which were carried away to Babylon; but might assure themselves they should remain there; and the rest also should be taken, and not returned until the end of the seventy years, Jer 27:16-22.
