My eyes have grown dim with grief;1 my whole frame is but a shadow.2
Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent are aroused3 against the ungodly.
Nevertheless, the righteous4 will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands5 will grow stronger.6
"But come on, all of you, try again! I will not find a wise man among you.7
My days have passed,8 my plans are shattered, and so are the desires of my heart.9
These men turn night into day;10 in the face of darkness they say, 'Light is near.'11
If the only home I hope for is the grave,12 if I spread out my bed13 in darkness,14
if I say to corruption,15 'You are my father,' and to the worm,16 'My mother' or 'My sister,'
where then is my hope?17 Who can see any hope for me?18
Will it go down to the gates of death ?19 Will we descend together into the dust?"20
