He bestows rain on the earth;1 he sends water upon the countryside.2
The lowly he sets on high,3 and those who mourn4 are lifted5 to safety.
He thwarts the plans6 of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.7
He catches the wise8 in their craftiness,9 and the schemes of the wily are swept away.10
Darkness11 comes upon them in the daytime; at noon they grope as in the night.12
He saves the needy13 from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful.14
So the poor15 have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.16
"Blessed is the man whom God corrects;17 so do not despise the discipline18 of the Almighty.19
For he wounds, but he also binds up;20 he injures, but his hands also heal.21
From six calamities he will rescue22 you; in seven no harm will befall you.23
In famine24 he will ransom you from death, and in battle from the stroke of the sword.25
You will be protected from the lash of the tongue,26 and need not fear27 when destruction comes.28
You will laugh29 at destruction and famine,30 and need not fear the beasts of the earth.31
