Jueces 8:14-24

14 y tomó a un joven de los de Sucot, y preguntándole, él le dio por escrito los principales de Sucot y sus ancianos, setenta y siete varones.

15 Y entrando a los de Sucot, dijo: He aquí a Zeba y a Zalmuna, sobre los cuales me zaheristeis, diciendo: ¿Está ya la mano de Zeba y de Zalmuna en tu mano, para que demos nosotros pan a tus varones cansados?

16 Y tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y espinas y abrojos del desierto, y castigó con ellos a los de Sucot.

17 Asimismo derribó la torre de Peniel, y mató a los de la ciudad.

18 Luego dijo a Zeba y a Zalmuna: ¿Qué manera de hombres tenían aquellos que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, tales eran aquellos ni más ni menos, que parecían hijos de rey.

19 Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran , hijos de mi madre. ¡Vive el SEÑOR, que si los hubierais guardado en vida, yo no os mataría!

20 Y dijo a Jeter su primogénito: Levántate, y mátalos. Mas el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor; que aun era muchacho.

21 Entonces dijeron Zeba y Zalmuna: Levántate tú, y mátanos; porque como es el varón, tal es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó, y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuna; y tomó las planchas que sus camellos traían al cuello.

22 Y los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.

23 Mas Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará; el SEÑOR será vuestro Señor.

24 Y les dijo Gedeón: Deseo haceros una petición, que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su despojo. (Porque traían zarcillos de oro, que eran ismaelitas.)

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 8

In this chapter we are told how Gideon pacified the Ephraimites, who complained because they were not sent unto to fight the Midianites, Jud 8:1-3 how he pursued the Midianites, until he took their two kings, and on his return chastised the men of Succoth and Penuel, because they refused to relieve his men with food as they were pursuing, Jud 8:4-17 how he slew the two kings of Midian, Jud 8:18-21 and after this conquest refused to take the government of Israel when offered him, Jud 8:22,23 how he requested of the Israelites the earrings they had taken from the Midianites, with which he in weakness made an ephod, which proved a snare to his house, Jud 8:24-27 how that the people were in peace forty years during his life, and that he had a numerous issue, and died in a good old age, Jud 8:28-32 but that after his death the Israelites fell into idolatry, and were ungrateful to his family, Jud 8:33-35.
