Números 11:19-29

19 No comeréis un día, ni dos días, ni cinco días, ni diez días, ni veinte días

20 sino hasta un mes de tiempo, hasta que os salga por las narices, y os sea en aborrecimiento; por cuanto menospreciasteis al SEÑOR que está en medio de vosotros, y llorasteis delante de él, diciendo: ¿Para qué salimos acá de Egipto

21 Entonces dijo Moisés: Seiscientos mil de a pie es el pueblo en medio del cual yo estoy; y tú dices: ¡Les daré carne, y comerán el tiempo de un mes

22 ¿Se degollarán para ellos ovejas y bueyes que les basten? ¿o se juntarán para ellos todos los peces del mar para que tengan abasto

23 Entonces el SEÑOR respondió a Moisés: ¿Se ha acortado la mano del SEÑOR? Ahora verás si te sucede mi dicho, o no

24 Y salió Moisés, y dijo al pueblo las palabras del SEÑOR; y juntó a los setenta varones de los ancianos del pueblo, y los hizo estar alrededor del tabernáculo

25 Entonces el SEÑOR descendió en la nube, y le habló; y tomó del espíritu que estaba en él, y lo dio a los setenta varones ancianos; y fue que, al reposar sobre ellos el espíritu, profetizaron, y no cesaron

26 Y habían quedado en el campamento dos de los varones, el uno se llamaba Eldad y el otro Medad, sobre los cuales también reposó el espíritu; estaban éstos entre los inscritos, mas no habían salido al tabernáculo; y comenzaron a profetizar en el campamento

27 Y corrió un joven, y dio aviso a Moisés, y dijo: Eldad y Medad profetizan en el campamento

28 Entonces respondió Josué hijo de Nun, ministro de Moisés, uno de sus jóvenes, y dijo: Señor mío Moisés, impídelos

29 Y Moisés le respondió: ¿Tienes tú celos por mí? Quisiera que todo el pueblo del SEÑOR fuera profeta, que el SEÑOR diera su espíritu sobre ellos

Números 11:19-29 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO NUMBERS 11

This chapter informs us of the complaints of the people of Israel, which brought the fire of the Lord upon them, and consumed many of them; and which, at the intercession of Moses, was quenched, and the place from thence called Taberah, Nu 11:1-3; and of the lusting of the mixed multitude after flesh, to increase which, they called to mind their food in Egypt; and to show their folly and ingratitude in so doing, the manna is described, Nu 11:4-9; and of the uneasiness of Moses, and his complaints of the heavy burden of the people upon him, Nu 11:10-15; and to make him easy, it is promised, that seventy of the elders of Israel should partake of his spirit, and assist in bearing the burden, Nu 11:16,17; and that the people should have flesh to serve them a whole month, Nu 11:18-20; at which last Moses expressed some degree of unbelief, Nu 11:21-23; however God fulfilled his promise with respect to both. Some of the spirit of Moses was taken and given to seventy elders, who prophesied, and two men are particularly taken notice of, who did so, Nu 11:24-30; quails in great numbers were brought by a wind to the people; but while they were eating them wrath came upon them, and they were smitten with a plague, whence the place was called Kibrothhattaavah, Nu 11:31-34; and from thence they removed to Hazeroth, Nu 11:35.
