Números 31:18-28

18 Mas todas as meninas, que não conheceram homem, deitando-se com ele, deixai-as viver para vós.

19 Acampai-vos por sete dias fora do arraial; todos vós, tanto o que tiver matado alguma pessoa, como o que tiver tocado algum morto, ao terceiro dia e ao sétimo dia purificai-vos, a vós e aos vossos cativos.

20 Também purificai-vos no tocante a todo vestido, e todo artigo de peles, e toda obra de pelos de cabras, e todo utensílio de madeira.

21 Então Eleazar, o sacerdote, disse aos homens de guerra que tinham saído � peleja: Este é o estatuto da lei que o Senhor ordenou a Moisés:

22 o ouro, a prata, o bronze, o ferro, o estanho, o chumbo,

23 tudo o que pode resistir ao fogo, fálo-eis passar pelo fogo, e ficará limpo; todavia será purificado com a água de purificação; e tudo o que não pode resistir ao fogo, fá-lo-eis passar pela água.

24 Trambém lavareis as vossas vestes ao sétimo dia, e ficareis limpos, e depois entrareis no arraial.

25 Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés:

26 Faze a soma da presa que foi tomada, tanto de homens como de animais, tu e Eleazar, o sacerdote, e os cabeças das casas paternas da congregação;

27 e divide-a em duas partes iguais, entre os que, hábeis na guerra, saíram � peleja, e toda a congregação.

28 E tomarás para o Senhor um tributo dos homens de guerra, que saíram � peleja; um em quinhentos, assim dos homens, como dos bois, dos jumentos e dos rebanhos;

INTRODUCTION TO NUMBERS 31

This chapter contains an order to make war upon Midian, which was accordingly done, Nu 31:1-12, but Moses was wroth, because they saved the women alive, who, through the counsel of Balaam, had been the cause of sin, and of the plague for it in Israel, and therefore orders them, and the male children, to be slain, Nu 31:13-18, and then directs to the purification of the soldiers, their captives and spoil, Nu 31:19-24, and by the command of God an account is taken of the prey, and a division of it made between the soldiers and the congregation, and out of each part a tribute is levied for the Lord, Nu 31:25-31 and the sum of the whole booty is given, Nu 31:32-35 and of the part which belonged to the soldiers, and of the tribute given to the Lord, Nu 31:36-41 and of the part which belonged to the children of Israel, Nu 31:42-47 and besides the above tribute to the Lord, the officers made a voluntary oblation out of their spoil, both by way of gratitude for sparing their lives, and to make atonement for their souls, Nu 31:48-54.
