Osée 11:1-9

1 Quand Israël était jeune, je l'aimais, Et j'appelai mon fils hors d'Egypte.

2 Mais ils se sont éloignés de ceux qui les appelaient; Ils ont sacrifié aux Baals, Et offert de l'encens aux idoles.

3 C'est moi qui guidai les pas d'Ephraïm, Le soutenant par ses bras; Et ils n'ont pas vu que je les guérissais.

4 Je les tirai avec des liens d'humanité, avec des cordages d'amour, Je fus pour eux comme celui qui aurait relâché le joug près de leur bouche, Et je leur présentai de la nourriture.

5 Ils ne retourneront pas au pays d'Egypte; Mais l'Assyrien sera leur roi, Parce qu'ils ont refusé de revenir à moi.

6 L'épée fondra sur leurs villes, Anéantira, dévorera leurs soutiens, A cause des desseins qu'ils ont eus.

7 Mon peuple est enclin à s'éloigner de moi; On les rappelle vers le Très-Haut, Mais aucun d'eux ne l'exalte.

8 Que ferai-je de toi, Ephraïm? Dois-je te livrer, Israël? Te traiterai-je comme Adma? Te rendrai-je semblable à Tseboïm? Mon coeur s'agite au dedans de moi, Toutes mes compassions sont émues.

9 Je n'agirai pas selon mon ardente colère, Je renonce à détruire Ephraïm; Car je suis Dieu, et non pas un homme, Je suis le Saint au milieu de toi; Je ne viendrai pas avec colère.

INTRODUCTION TO HOSEA 11

This chapter gives an account of the free and ancient love of God to Israel, and of the benefits and blessings of goodness he bestowed upon them; and of their ingratitude in not owning them, nor hearkening to his prophets, but sacrificing and burning incense to idols, Ho 11:1-4; wherefore they are threatened with disappointment of relief from Egypt, with captivity into Assyria, and with the ravages of the sword in all places, being a people bent to backsliding, and incorrigible, Ho 11:5-7; and yet, notwithstanding all this, the bowels of the Lord yearn after them, and promises of mercy are made to them; that they shall not utterly be destroyed, but a remnant shall be spared; which in the latter day shall be called and follow after the Lord, the King Messiah, and be returned from their captivity, and be resettled in their own land, and replaced in their own houses, Ho 11:8-11; the chapter is concluded with an honourable character of Judah, Ho 11:12.
