Salmi 96:3-13

3 Raccontate fra le genti la sua gloria, E le sue maraviglie fra tutti i popoli.

4 Perciocchè il Signore è grande, e degno di sovrana lode; Egli è tremendo sopra tutti gl’iddii.

5 Perciocchè tutti gl’iddii de’ popoli sono idoli; Ma il Signore ha fatti i cieli.

6 Maestà e magnificenza sono davanti a lui; Forza e gloria sono nel suo santuario.

7 Date al Signore, o generazioni de’ popoli, Date al Signore gloria e forza.

8 Date al Signore la gloria dovuta al suo Nome; Portategli offerte, e venite ne’ suoi cortili.

9 Adorate il Signore nel magnifico santuario; Tremate, o abitanti di tutta la terra, per la sua presenza.

10 Dite fra le genti: Il Signore regna; Il mondo sarà pure stabilito, e non sarà più smosso; Egli giudicherà i popoli in dirittura.

11 Rallegrinsi i cieli, e gioisca la terra; Risuoni il mare, e quello ch’è in esso.

12 Festeggi la campagna, e tutto quello ch’è in essa. Allora tutti gli alberi delle selve daranno voci d’allegrezza,

13 Nel cospetto del Signore; perciocchè egli viene, Egli viene per giudicar la terra; Egli giudicherà il mondo in giustizia, Ed i popoli nella sua verità.

Salmi 96:3-13 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 96

This psalm was written by David, as appears from 1Ch 16:7,23 to whom it is ascribed by the Septuagint, Vulgate Latin, and all the Oriental versions. This and part of Psalm 105 were first composed and sung at the bringing of the ark from the house of Obededom to the city of David; and here it is detached from that with a new introduction to it, and applied to the times and kingdom of the Messiah, and; with great propriety, since the ark was an eminent type of him. The inscription in the Syriac version is,

``a Psalm of David, a Prophecy of the coming of the Messiah, and of the calling of the Gentiles that believe in him:''

and very rightly, since express mention is made of them in it, and of the publication of the Gospel among them; and clear reference is had to Christ, who is the Jehovah all along spoken of Jarchi well observes, that wherever a "new song" is mentioned, it is to be understood of future time, or the times of the Messiah; and the end of the psalm shows it,
