Éxodo 14:19-29

19 Entonces el ángel de Dios, que iba al frente del pueblo de Israel, se trasladó hacia atrás del campamento. La columna de nube también se cambió de lugar y pasó a estar detrás de ellos.

20 La nube se puso entre los egipcios y el campamento de los israelitas. Al atardecer, la nube se convirtió en fuego e iluminó la noche, pero los egipcios y los israelitas no se acercaron unos a otros en toda la noche.

21 Luego Moisés extendió la mano sobre el mar y el Señor
abrió un camino a través de las aguas mediante un fuerte viento oriental. El viento sopló durante toda la noche y transformó el lecho del mar en tierra seca.

22 Entonces el pueblo de Israel cruzó por en medio del mar, caminando sobre tierra seca, con muros de agua a cada lado.

23 Entonces los egipcios —con todos los carros de guerra y sus conductores, y con los caballos del faraón— persiguieron a los israelitas hasta el medio del mar.

24 Pero poco antes del amanecer, el Señor
miró al ejército egipcio desde la columna de fuego y de nube, y causó gran confusión en sus fuerzas de combate.

25 Torció
las ruedas de los carros, para que les resultara difícil manejarlos. «¡Salgamos de aquí, alejémonos de los israelitas! —gritaban los egipcios—; ¡el Señor
está luchando por ellos en contra de Egipto!».

26 Cuando todos los israelitas habían llegado al otro lado, el Señor
le dijo a Moisés: «Extiende otra vez tu mano sobre el mar, y las aguas volverán con fuerza y cubrirán a los egipcios, a sus carros y a sus conductores».

27 Entonces, cuando el sol comenzaba a salir, Moisés extendió su mano sobre el mar y las aguas volvieron con fuerza a su estado normal. Los egipcios trataron de escapar, pero el Señor
los arrastró al mar.

28 Enseguida las aguas volvieron a su lugar y cubrieron todos los carros y a sus conductores: el ejército completo del faraón. No sobrevivió ni uno de los egipcios que entró al mar para perseguir a los israelitas.

29 En cambio, el pueblo de Israel caminó por en medio del mar sobre tierra seca, mientras las aguas permanecían levantadas como muros a ambos lados.

INTRODUCTION TO EXODUS 14

This chapter begins with directions of God to Moses, to be given to the children of Israel about the course they were to steer in their journey, with the reason thereof, Ex 14:1-4, which they observing, a report was brought to Pharaoh that they were fled, and this determined him and his servants to get ready and pursue after them, as they did with a great army, Ex 14:5-9, which when the Israelites saw, it put them in great fear, and set them to murmuring and complaining against Moses for bringing them out of Egypt, Ex 14:10,11,12, who desired them to be still and quiet, and they should see the salvation of the Lord, Ex 14:13,14, and he is bid to order the people to go on in their journey, and to take his rod and stretch it over the sea and divide it, that Israel might pass through it on dry ground, and the Egyptians follow them, whereby God would be honoured and glorified, Ex 14:15-18, upon which the Angel of the Lord in a pillar of cloud removed from before there, and went behind them for their protection, Ex 14:19,20, and Moses stretching out his hand over the sea, and a strong east wind blowing upon it, the waters divided and the Israelites went into it, and the Egyptians followed them, but their host being troubled by the Lord, and their chariot wheels taken off, they found themselves in great danger, and were thrown into a panic, Ex 14:20-25 and upon Moses's stretching out his hand again over the sea, the waters returned, and Pharaoh and his host were drowned, but the Israelites passed through safely, as on dry land, Ex 14:26-29, which great work of the Lord being observed by them, influenced their fear of him, their faith in him and his servant Moses, Ex 14:30,31.
