We have sinned,1 even as our fathers2 did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.37
When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought4 to your miracles; they did not remember5 your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea,6 the Red Sea.a8
Yet he saved them7 for his name's sake,8 to make his mighty power9 known.
He rebuked10 the Red Sea, and it dried up;11 he led them through12 the depths as through a desert.
He saved them13 from the hand of the foe;14 from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.1511
The waters covered16 their adversaries; not one of them survived.
Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.1713
But they soon forgot18 what he had done and did not wait for his counsel.1914
In the desert20 they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland21 they put God to the test.2215
So he gave them23 what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease24 upon them.
In the camp they grew envious25 of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD.
