Some wandered in desert1 wastelands, finding no way to a city2 where they could settle.
They were hungry3 and thirsty,4 and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out5 to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by a straight way6 to a city7 where they could settle.
Let them give thanks8 to the LORD for his unfailing love9 and his wonderful deeds10 for men,
for he satisfies11 the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.1210
Some sat in darkness13 and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering14 in iron chains,1511
for they had rebelled16 against the words of God and despised17 the counsel18 of the Most High.
So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.1913
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them20 from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness21 and the deepest gloom22 and broke away their chains.23
