He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless;1 he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.210
His victims are crushed,3 they collapse; they fall under his strength.
He says to himself, "God has forgotten;4 he covers his face and never sees."512
Arise,6 LORD! Lift up your hand,7 O God. Do not forget the helpless.813
Why does the wicked man revile God?9 Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"?1014
But you, O God, do see trouble11 and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you;12 you are the helper13 of the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked and evil man;14 call him to account for his wickedness that would not be found out.
The LORD is King for ever and ever;15 the nations16 will perish from his land.
You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted;17 you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,1818
defending the fatherless19 and the oppressed,20 in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.
