But I am a worm1 and not a man, scorned by men2 and despised3 by the people.
All who see me mock me;4 they hurl insults,5 shaking their heads:68
"He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him.7 Let him deliver him,8 since he delights9 in him."
Yet you brought me out of the womb;10 you made me trust11 in you even at my mother's breast.
From birth12 I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God.
Do not be far from me,13 for trouble is near14 and there is no one to help.1512
Many bulls16 surround me;17 strong bulls of Bashan18 encircle me.
Roaring lions19 tearing their prey20 open their mouths wide21 against me.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint.22 My heart has turned to wax;23 it has melted away24 within me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,25 and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;26 you lay mea in the dust27 of death.
Dogs28 have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have piercedb29 my hands and my feet.
