Psalm 51:1-10 (New International Version)

View In My Bible

For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

1 Have mercy1 on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;2 according to your great compassion3 blot out4 my transgressions.5 2 Wash away6 all my iniquity and cleanse7 me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.8 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned9 and done what is evil in your sight,10 so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.11 5 Surely I was sinful12 at birth,13 sinful from the time my mother conceived me. 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner partsa; you teachb me wisdom14 in the inmost place.15 7 Cleanse16 me with hyssop,17 and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.18 8 Let me hear joy and gladness;19 let the bones20 you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins21 and blot out22 all my iniquity. 10 Create in me a pure heart,23 O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.24
