Psalm 78:35-45 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
35 They remembered that God was their Rock,1 that God Most High was their Redeemer.2 36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths,3 lying to him with their tongues; 37 their hearts were not loyal4 to him, they were not faithful to his covenant. 38 Yet he was merciful;5 he forgave6 their iniquities7 and did not destroy them. Time after time he restrained his anger8 and did not stir up his full wrath. 39 He remembered that they were but flesh,9 a passing breeze10 that does not return. 40 How often they rebelled11 against him in the desert12 and grieved him13 in the wasteland! 41 Again and again they put God to the test;14 they vexed the Holy One of Israel.15 42 They did not remember16 his power-- the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,17 43 the day he displayed his miraculous signs18 in Egypt, his wonders19 in the region of Zoan. 44 He turned their rivers to blood;20 they could not drink from their streams. 45 He sent swarms of flies21 that devoured them, and frogs22 that devastated them.
