After this I saw another angel1 coming down from heaven.2 He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor.32
With a mighty voice he shouted: "Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!4 She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evila spirit,5 a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.63
For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries.7 The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,8 and the merchants of the earth grew rich9 from her excessive luxuries."104
Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, my people,11 so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues;125
for her sins are piled up to heaven,13 and God has remembered14 her crimes.
Give back to her as she has given; pay her back15 double16 for what she has done. Mix her a double portion from her own cup.177
Give her as much torture and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself.18 In her heart she boasts, 'I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never mourn.'198
Therefore in one day20 her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning and famine. She will be consumed by fire,21 for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
"When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her22 and shared her luxury23 see the smoke of her burning,24 they will weep and mourn over her.2510
Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off26 and cry: " 'Woe! Woe, O great city,27 O Babylon, city of power! In one hour28 your doom has come!'
"The merchants29 of the earth will weep and mourn30 over her because no one buys their cargoes any more31--
