As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.
All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."a113
"Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit."b2 "The poison of vipers is on their lips."c314
"Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."d415
"Their feet are swift to shed blood;
ruin and misery mark their ways,
and the way of peace they do not know."e518
"There is no fear of God before their eyes."f619
Now we know that whatever the law says,7 it says to those who are under the law,8 so that every mouth may be silenced9 and the whole world held accountable to God.1020
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law;11 rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.12
But now a righteousness from God,13 apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.1422
This righteousness from God15 comes through faith16 in Jesus Christ17 to all who believe.18 There is no difference,1923
for all have sinned20 and fall short of the glory of God,
and are justified21 freely by his grace22 through the redemption23 that came by Christ Jesus.
God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,g24 through faith in his blood.25 He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished26--
he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
