1Some Sadducees (whosay that there is noresurrection ) came to Jesus, and began questioning Him, saying,

"Teacher, Moseswrote for us that 2IF A MAN'SBROTHERDIES and leavesbehind a wife AND LEAVESNOCHILD, HIS BROTHER SHOULD MARRY THE WIFE AND RAISE UP CHILDREN TO HIS BROTHER.

"There were sevenbrothers; and the firsttook a wife, and diedleavingnochildren.

"The secondonemarried her, and diedleavingbehindnochildren; and the thirdlikewise;

and so allsevenleftnochildren. Last of all the womandiedalso.

"In the resurrection, when they riseagain, whichone'swife will she be? For allsevenhad married her."

Jesussaid to them, "Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scripturesor the power of God?

"For when they rise from the dead, they neithermarrynor are given in marriage, but are likeangels in heaven.

"But regarding the fact that the deadriseagain, have you not read in the book of Moses, 3in the passage about the burning bush, howGodspoke to him, saying, '4I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, and the God of Jacob '?

"5He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatlymistaken."
