1 It happened that while1Apollos was at 2Corinth, Paulpassedthrough the 3uppercountry and came to 4Ephesus, and foundsomedisciples.
2
He said to them, "5Did you receive the HolySpirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, 6we have not evenheardwhether there is a HolySpirit."
3
And he said, "Into whatthen were you baptized?" And they said, "7Into John'sbaptism."
4
Paulsaid, "8Johnbaptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people9to believe in Him who was comingafter him, that is, in Jesus."
5
When they heard this, they were 10baptized in the name of the LordJesus.
6
And when Paul had 11laid his hands upon them, the HolySpiritcame on them, and they began 12speaking with tongues and 13prophesying.
8
And he entered14the synagogue and continued speaking out boldly for threemonths, reasoning and persuading them 15about the kingdom of God.
9
But when16some were becominghardened and disobedient, speakingevil of 17the Waybefore the people, he withdrew from them and tookaway18the disciples, reasoningdaily* in the school of Tyrannus.

Miracles at Ephesus
11God was performing22extraordinarymiracles by the hands of Paul,
12
23so that handkerchiefsoraprons were evencarried from his body to the sick, and the diseasesleft them and 24the evilspiritswent out.
13
But alsosome of the Jewish25exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to nameoverthose who had the evilspirits the name of the LordJesus, saying, "I adjure you by JesuswhomPaulpreaches."
14
Sevensons of oneSceva, a Jewishchiefpriest, were doingthis.
15
And the evilspiritanswered and said to them, "I recognizeJesus, and I knowaboutPaul, but who are you?"
16
And the man, in whom was the evilspirit, leaped on them and subduedall of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that housenaked and wounded.
17
Thisbecameknown to all, bothJews and Greeks, who lived in 26Ephesus; and fearfell upon them all and the name of the LordJesus was being magnified.
18
Manyalso of those who had believed kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices.
19
And many of those who practicedmagicbrought their bookstogether and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty*thousand27pieces of silver.
