261When they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of 2Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carrybehindJesus.

And following Him was a largecrowd of the people, and of womenwho were 3mourning and lamenting Him.

But Jesusturning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, stopweeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
29
"For behold, the days are comingwhen* they will say, '4Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that neverbore, and the breasts that nevernursed.'
30
"Then they will begin TO 5SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, 'FALL ON US,' AND TO THE HILLS, 'COVER US.'

"For if they dothesethingswhen the tree is green, what will happenwhen it is dry?"

6Twoothersalso, who were criminals, were being ledaway to be put to death with Him.
The Crucifixion
337When they came to the placecalled The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

But Jesus was saying, "8Father, forgive them; for they do not knowwhat they are doing."9And they castlots, dividing up His garmentsamong themselves.

And the peoplestood by, looking on. And even the 10rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He savedothers; 11let Him saveHimselfifthis is the Christ of God, His ChosenOne."

The soldiersalsomocked Him, coming up to Him, 12offering Him sourwine

and saying, "13If You are the King of the Jews, saveYourself!"

Now there was also an inscriptionabove Him, "14THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

15One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurlingabuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? 16SaveYourself and us!"

But the otheranswered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not evenfearGod, since you are under the samesentence of condemnation?

"And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receivingwhat we deserve for our deeds*; but thisman has donenothingwrong."

And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!"

And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in 17Paradise."

18It was nowabout19the sixthhour, and darknessfellover the wholelanduntil the ninthhour,

because the sun was obscured; and 20the veil of the temple was torn in two.

And Jesus, 21crying out with a loudvoice, said, "Father, 22INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT." Having saidthis, He breathed His last.

23Now when the centurionsaw what had happened, he began 24praisingGod, saying, "Certainlythisman was innocent."

And all the crowds who cametogether for thisspectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, 25beating their breasts.
49
26And all His acquaintances and 27the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeingthesethings.
Jesus Is Buried
5028And a mannamedJoseph, who was a 29member of the Council, a good and righteousman

(he had not consented to their plan and action ), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was 30waiting for the kingdom of God;

thismanwent to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

And he took it down and wrapped it in a linencloth, and laid Him in a tombcut into the rock, wherenoone had everlain.

It was 31the preparationday, and the Sabbath was about to begin.

Now32the womenwho had come with Him out of Galileefollowed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid.

Then they returned and 33preparedspices and perfumes. And 34 on the Sabbath they restedaccording to the commandment.
