Psalms 37:1-8

Security of Those Who Trust in the LORD, and Insecurity of the Wicked.

1

A Psalm of David.

1 1Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not 2envious toward wrongdoers.
2 For they will 3wither quickly like the grass And 4fade like the green herb.
3 5Trust in the LORD and do good; 6Dwell in the land and 7cultivate faithfulness.
4 8Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will 9give you the desires of your heart.
5 10Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6 He will bring forth 11your righteousness as the light And your judgment 12as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD and 13wait patiently for Him; 14Do not fret because of him who 15prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
8 Cease from anger and 16forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.

Psalms 37:1-8 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 37

\\<<[A Psalm] of David>>\\. This psalm, it is very probable, was written at the same time, and upon the same occasion, with the former; and describes the different states of good and bad men; and is full of exhortations, instructions, and advice to the people of God; intermixed with various encouraging promises. A late learned writer {h} thinks it was written for Mephibosheth's consolation under Ziba's calumny. {h} Delaney's Life of King David, vol. 2. p. 219.
