Titus 1:1-8 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
1 Paul, a servant of God1 and an apostle2 of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth3 that leads to godliness4-- 2 a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life,5 which God, who does not lie,6 promised before the beginning of time,7 3 and at his appointed season8 he brought his word to light9 through the preaching entrusted to me10 by the command of God11 our Savior,12 4 To Titus,13 my true son14 in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.15

Titus's Task on Crete

1:6-8Ref -- 1Ti 3:2-4

5 The reason I left you in Crete16 was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appointa elders17 in every town, as I directed you. 6 An elder must be blameless,18 the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7 Since an overseerb19 is entrusted with God's work,20 he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.21 8 Rather he must be hospitable,22 one who loves what is good,23 who is self-controlled,24 upright, holy and disciplined.
